Importing trades
Rafale files, the CSV template, duplicate protection, downloads and full export.
The Import dialog takes a spreadsheet of trades and turns it into journal entries, metrics and charts, automatically. Press i or click Import on the dashboard.
What it accepts
- File types :
.xlsx,.csvand.xls. - Rafale exports import as-is, zero configuration. This is the fast lane.
- Template files. Any file with the Afterburner template columns parses instantly. Grab the ready-to-fill CSV template (
AFTERBURNER.csv, with two worked example rows) with the Template button of the Settings dialog. - Everything else is offered to the AI import, which adapts foreign columns for you. See the next page.
The template columns
| Column | Notes |
|---|---|
| Date / Time | Entry date and time. Dates are ISO (2024-01-15), times 24h HH:mm. |
| Exit Date / Exit Time | Optional. Leave empty for trades still open. |
| Symbol | The instrument, e.g. EURUSD. |
| Exchange | Optional venue hint, e.g. FX. |
| Timeframe | Optional, e.g. 5m, 1h (5M or 1H work too). |
| Direction | Long or Short. |
| PnL | The result. Dollar amounts are converted to R using your account size; if the file's results are already R-multiples, they are used directly. |
| Trade Taken | YES or NO. NO marks a setup you identified but skipped. |
| Notes | Free text, kept with the trade. |
| Timezone (IANA Format) | e.g. Europe/Paris. All times in the file are read in this zone. |
Built-in protections
- Duplicate files replace, never double. Every import gets a fingerprint from its rows. Re-importing the same trades (same file again, or a Rafale session already pushed from the extension) replaces the previous import instead of duplicating your journal.
- Same-name catch. A file whose name matches an existing import is flagged before any parsing happens, with an explicit "import anyway" override if you really mean it.
- Overlap warning. If a new file's trades share entry and exit times with an existing import, the dialog names the matching file and asks before going ahead.
- Files you can always take back. When signed in, the file is stored with its trades. Settings lets you download any import at any time, as an Excel file of its trades as they are now, your edits and notes included.
First import extras
- Account size prompt. The very first import asks for your account size so dollar PnL converts to R correctly (1R = 1% of the account). Once set, it moves to Settings.
- Folder assignment. You can file the whole import into folders right from the dialog, before confirming.
Managing imports afterwards
The Settings dialog (the archive icon in the navbar) lists every imported file with its trade count, age and import date. From there you can download the file (an up-to-date Excel copy of its trades) or delete the import; deleting an import removes all of its trades from the journal. Rafale files carry a small Rafale badge so you can tell sessions apart from broker exports.
- Manually imported trades. Your hand-logged trades appear as one more file at the bottom of the list, with a Manual badge and the date you last logged one. It can be downloaded but not deleted.
- Export everything. Press and hold the download button of the last row for 5 seconds (it pulses): every trade of your journal downloads as one file,
AFTERBURNER_ALL_TRADES.xlsx.
Journal capacity
A journal holds up to 75,000 trades. Every write path (manual log, edit, import) respects this cap.
